I can’t wait to discuss our first true mystery! We will meet at Laura’s house for book club this month. This book is about Flavia de Luce an 11 year old quick-witted and fearless little sister that you will be excited to meet. (I promise you can blame this one on me if it’s not!)

There’s a lot to talk about in this book. More than your typical mystery, Alan Bradley’s characters have a lot of depth and complicated relationships. The subsequent books in the series are even better!
Thanks for the input. This is truly our first mystery in SIX years of meeting. We did read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time a while ago, though we were much more interested in the main character and not so much in the murder! Do you have any suggestions for questions!?
“Curious Incident” was great, too. You’re right: characters are so much more interesting to talk about than mysteries. “Who’s your favorite character and why?” is always a good question, especially in a novel rife with quirky characters like “Sweetness.” I like Dogger. He’s so unusual. There’s a lingering sadness, but he’s the closest person Flavia seems to have to a friend. And Flavia is really quite supportive of him when he has his POW flashbacks. Enjoy your discussion!
